Old-style Keyboards

Hello All,

I need a new keyboard and I cannot find a proper one. All the current ones have recessed buttons or have soft/sticky type keys that have no feedback. I want one of the "clicky" keyboards of a few years back. you know; the ones when you typed you knew what you were typing and there was a general responsiveness to the keys.

any ideas where I may find these? I have been to numerous actual stores and haven't found a single one. I know there are places where you may find these online I just don't know under what name they are sold and through what reputable retailer (newegg? tigerdirect?)

Please point me in the right direction!

By the way, P/s connection is fine; i do NOT want usb.

Thanks!

PCKeyboard.com sells new ones built to the original design (but not cheap) - go to DansData.com and read the article(s) about the "One True Keyboard" and he has links to sources. If you can find the Focus 2001, it has clicky keys (Alps switches).

.bh.

The type of keyboard you seek, is the revered Model M. I have 5, but I'm not about to give one up.

Usually you can get them for $20 to $30 a piece on ebay.
Do a search for "Model M", don't get ripped off too bad on shipping.

Keep your eyes open for universities and companies having equipment auctions where they ditch old PCs and stuff for almost nothing. Might get lucky.

noen of my model m's require an adapter - all ps2 native. (oldest is c1987). they did make AT models as well though.

Different people, different preferences.

Most want it for the 'solid' response, rather than the sound.

Personally, I like old clickys because they came in a solid metal frame that doesn't move around with the light touch of your palm. I'm a Northgate Omnikey owner, bought a second hand unit in '98 or so and can't believe the prices they are commanding now on ebay!

It is not for the sound as much as the responsiveness present in the keys.

All the new keyboards feel weighted down and much too soft. I can barely tell what I am hitting and I am a very fast typist so this is a problem as I love the responsiveness of my current one but it has to be replaced. The IBM keyboards that came with the Dell computers at work are not bad at all.

Of course I could just stop being a num-skull and see if I can find the same model as the one I have....but that would be the smart thing to do.

Thanks for the help all!

it's a "buckling spring" keyboard if i'm not mistaken. (that's the type of keyboard you're looking for). Although, if you can't find it (or happen to want a natural style keyboard, I'm really happy with the response on my Belkin Ergo-Board) I has a very solid feel to it.
