Old SSD

I just had a drive failure so I am installing a new drive right away in my tower. I have a couple Samsung 64 GB SATA 1 SSD's that were in an Alien laptop that I bought in Jan 2008. They were used for about 2 years until I needed more space and I am really only looking to repurpose the old drives if there is value in them. (Yes they cost a fortune back then, but that is mute to this decision)

I have the option of putting these into a desktop and setting them up as a RAID 0 array so I would have a roughly 128 GB SSD to run Windows 10 on and then a new WD black drive that would be the data drive.

Would these SATA 1 drives provide enough performance to justify their installation or would I be better just sticking with the SATA 3 HDD?

Thanks,

Murray

I don't recommend SSD RAID-0 unless you have a real business case for it. Generally, for consumer use, a single SSD gives enough IOPS.

And those SSDs, are basically too small, they're close to useless. Go with a 275GB Crucial MX300, or a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO.

Or roll the dice with someone like Adata or Mushkin.

If they are Sata 1, they are pretty old and likely have earlier controllers which were meh. I would go with a more modern SSD, as mentioned by Larry. Both those are good options, as are ones like the WD blue SSDs. Adata also has some decent offerings, IMO, for a basic SSD, go for any modern one at the best price.
