I've come across an old Pentium 100 PC, and I would like to figure out which motherboard is installed and/or what the fastest CPU is that I can install. Although it came with a manual, I cannot precisely determine which motherboard it is. Some of the information I have is:

- 82430 FX/P54C PCI Mainboard;
- Supports P54CX family CPUs running at 75/90/100/120/133; 133/150; and 125/150/166/180 MHz speeds;
- Supports Socket 7 &VRM for upgrade;

(Anybody know what VRM stands for, by the way?)

This board was manufactured in 1996, and comes with an Intel 430FX chipset. Although I've done research on the Soyo website (www.soyousa.com), I am still not able to figure out which motherboard this is. According to their instructions, to determine the model number you must look at the bottom of the first page of the manual. However, the first page mentions the following numbers:

5TC0/C2/C5 Serial
5TCU0/U2/C5 Serial
5TCS0/S2/C5 Serial

Again, I have no clue which one exactly this is, or what the difference is between the models mentioned above. When I check out the Socket 7 motherboards on the website, I get model numbers such as SY-5SSM and SY-5STM -- these aren't at all like the ones being mentioned in the manual!

In the BIOS download section, they do talk about the 5TCS and 5TCU mainboards -- since both BIOS files are named differently (one file is 5tcs1015.bin, while the other's 5tcu-a23 upgrade), I have no clue which one to use. The description of both mainboards (features, layout, etc.) is nearly identical, so that's not very helpful either.

Anybody got any clue?

Well, VRM stands for "Voltage Regulator Module". Just a feature that was new with the Socket 7's whenever they went from the P1 to the MMX. On identifying your mobo check this site.
