old soundcards vs onboard audio?

I have a asus a7v8x with oboard Realtek 6-channel CODEC some ac97 crap all im using is the lineout ministereo jack to a 2 rca jack cable stereo mini on one side red and white on other to my pro logic reciver.I just foudn a yamaha xg ymf724f-v pci sound card.do you guys think id be better off with the yamaha?would there be any differnce

I am using onboard sound on an I810 board and it's horrible. I am gonna replace it with a pci card as soon as I get a chance.

i am not using a single pci slot and dont mind using one does anyone here have experience with this card?
