Old Smoke Detector (w/pics)

I live in an apartment built in the 60's and the smoke detector, which looks like it's the original, will not stop beeping even though it's hard wired and does not appear to have a battery backup.

Any suggestions on what to do to get this thing to shut up since it does not appear to have a battery?

Thanks.

Hey, anyone live near the OP? Go to his apt around 3am, and furiously ring the doorbell. See if he runs outside in his underwear, yelling, "fire!"

The first picture is a chime, not likely part of the fire alarm since they usualy back then they used bells. Now days chimes are use as audubles in day care centers. The plungers with the springs will ding the dampend metal plates on the top and bottom.

The second picture jist looks like a cover for the chimes.

Fucking apartment painters are the worst...

Good thing it's not a smoke detector because they aren't supposed to be painted.

About the only good thing here is it's made in U-S-A and not some cheap ass Chinese piece of shit!

If you have a gas furnace in that place from the 60s I hope you have a CO detector...

Made in the USA back in the 60s. America hasn't really made anything (or atleast very little) for a while.
