OK, here goes:
1. There was an old TV show with a mysterious guy who wore this gold medallion around his neck. He seemed to gather power from the sun through it or something to give him superhuman strength and such, but he didn't really know who he was. The show was a series about him constantly travelling (sort of like the Hulk) and trying to figure out who he is.......

<edit> I remember one episode distinctly where he was helping a woman in a local community dig a foundation for her house or barn or something. He accomplished in one sunny day what it would have taken days for a group of men to accomplish.
<edit> Furthermore, it may be this episode or another, but he 'sensed' a calling to some mountains. While in the rocks, he found that there was a hidden entrance to a cave that his medallion gave him access to. Inside were some clues to his identity, but there was also an evil woman, perhaps also from his race, that was trying to kill him in some fashion....
2. I read a book once with the following premise: Somewhere in a distant planet, a boy/guy decides to search for the origin of humanity. The book details his travels to a couple of different planets, finally culminating in his reaching Earth.
<edit> one of the planets he travelled to, if I remember correctly was populated by people who were all named "Jones" and had red-hair. It was a crazy planet, though and he had to leave...
However, upon reaching Earth, he finds it populated by.......idiots. They all acted stupid, recklessly, and with no common sense. Upon further searching, he finds that a small group of 'smart' people had relocated themselves to Australia where they essentially functioned as babysitters for the planet.
Moral of the story: dumb people are going to outbreed smart people.......
