The Horse Soldiers (1959? can't remember...too lazy to look it up). John Wayne. Set in early civil war (Seige of Vicksburg timeframe), plot involves a Union cavalry raid into confederate territory.
Not a bad movie... i give it 3.5 stars out of 5. Involves plenty of drinking, senseless killing, 2 bloody amputations, and decent historical context.
Wayne was his usual character, and the plot involved a love interest...something I would rather not see in a war/conflict movie.
Update:
Watched "King of the Pecos" last weekend, Considering this movie came out in 1936 it was suprisingly callous and suspenseful. There was betrayal, cold-blooded murder, arson, shooting, decent horse chases/stunts, and child abuse.... I give it 4 bullets out of 6!
