Got this Pic from the link in styrafoam's post and I gotta ask...are the old school toys like the hoola-hoop too outdated for the nanosecond attention spans of kids today?

I think so.

Some of the toy's out today are amazing. but it seems all of them include sitting down and doing nothing.

I swear i see more fat 10-14 year olds then ever before. what happened to playing baseball or riding bicycles all day?

Yes, because hoola-hooping takes the skill of a retarded waterfoul.

darn. then what about people like me that could never do it? sniff..

I don't think kids' attention spans are any shorter than they always have been. Two year olds have the attention span of....yep....two year olds.

I don't think these flashy new toys are any better than the "old school" toys, and I think they may actually be detrimental.

i used to play basketball, ride bikes, and play baseball everyday....

today's toys don't have any potentially harmful projectiles...

i remember GI Joe and other various toys that used to fire missiles 'n' other stuff...

i also remember buying plastic toy guns that shot little plastic bullets...

*sigh* i miss my childhood haha

No.
My kids are into video games and stuff, but they still do plenty of old fashioned playing.
They have fun doing the hoola hoop, jumping rope, riding bikes, playing with Legos, playing with characters, etc.

yeah now you are fat but have a strong right arm eh? 😀

Only one to blame are parents...I see it all the time..lazy parents. I don't buy anything that's passive entertianment for my kids. We have motorcycles, board games, bicycles, skakeboards, plus I play golf, catch etc etc etc with them and thier friends at my house. I also have a rule that they must be out of the house for about 5 hours on saturday...a couple hours a few times a week... so mommy and I can play.🙂 This keeps them in plenty of trouble.

It just seems like that a lot of kids today don't really use their imagination that much. They need to be entertained rather than finding ways to entertain themselves. When I was little, you found ways to entertain yourself so you didn't get bored. It's not that kids today don't have the same level of imagination that we did when I was a kid. They may even have MORE imagination.....but they either don't use it....or don't know HOW to use it. It's rather sad.......
