Spiderweb is a little-known niche publisher, I think a three person developer, who makes old school RPG's.

They have huge free demos, are third person, crude graphics, big stories.

I've followed them a long time; their latest new series is 'Avadon'.

Their games have sold for about $25 for years, with occasional sales maybe 25% off.

Steam has added their latest game, for only $9.99 (10% off that on sale). Spiderweb lowered their web site price to $20.

If people like this type of game, this is a great deal.

Even on sale, these games are not cheap - I think I spent $90 on one of the series, Geneforge, way more than I would normally think was a good buy.

I remember seeing three main old-style RPG publishers on a list - I think another was Eschalon and forgot the third.

I noticed Steam also has an 'indie RPG' called 'Bastion' just out worth a look too.

Was looking at Averon for a while but never felt like jumping in.
At 9 dollars its worth a shot.

Played the demo, not on steam, had to download.

Its meh. Certainly reminiscent of the old school. But the reason we evolved to Baldurs Gate is cuz its better and more fun to play.

To be fair, the Spiderweb games are for those who've already played all the classic CRPGs. Are they better than Baldurs Gate, Planescape, Icewind Dale, and others? No, but they're there to fill a void if you've already played those games and want something new.

It's definitely not for everyone though, and it's great that they make a demo available which seems to be a rarity for PC games lately.

I was a HUGE fan of the Exile series. Exile III especially was an absolutely fantastic game. Sure the mechanics and graphics on their games might not be up to snuff, but they are extremely rich in content.
