Hi. I recently picked up two socket 754 motherboards and want to know which one was a better board back in its day?

The two boards that I picked up are the MSI K8N Neo Platinum and the Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro. Which one was a more stable board? Better OC'er or just all around better board?

I'm going to keep one for myself and play around with OC'ing. I never have enough nerve to OC with any newer hardware. The price of this hardware is now right in my comfort zone for playing around with OC'ing. :D

I have a A64 3000+@2.87ghz running on a GA-K8NS PRO, it's rock solid and never misses a beat.

Plenty of overclocking options on the GA-K8NS PRO.

Thanks for the reply. So the Gigabyte was a better board than the MSI then? I was too busy with socket A when s754 was out.

I can't really say, I haven't used or sold an MSI product in a few years, but from past experiences with other MSI products (mainly socket A and 478), I wasn't impressed with them and they tended to have poor reliability...but this is just my experience with them.

I second this! I've had 3 MSI mobos, none we're reliable and all we're finicky. I've had good luck with my 6600GT tho, *knock on wood*

My MSI KT4V-L mobo served me well over the years, although because it had a Via chipset it was kind of "quirky". It also had a paucity of overclocking options, missing vcore adjust past 0.05+.

I will not ever purchase another MSI motherboard if I can avoid it. I went through 3 KT266 (not the KT266A the orginal) based Socket A boards back when it was first released and after it failed for the 3rd time in the 1st 90 days the resellar I had purchased from had closed it doors and MSI would not RMA it. I purchased an ECS K7S5A thats still in service today. MSI video cards = ok products but I would not touch their motherboards w/ a 10ft pole.

I've never used an MSI board before. I think that the MSI board will definitely go to someone else then and I'll keep the Gigabyte board for myself. The good thing about this MSI board though is that it's been in use for a couple of years now, so it should continue to work. It's not like buying a new board and having it be DOA or flaking out in a couple of months or something.

I still have my ECS K7S5A and it works great. I thought that it was a great board, especially for the money. It was in a backup system. Now, it's being replaced by yet another backup. I also purchased the ECS K7S5A Pro, but that board died on me after a couple of years. I don't think it was the fault of the board though. I think that my Antec power supply took it out when it went belly up.

Thanks again for the input guys. :D

The MSI K8N Neo Platinum was a good board. I recently upgraded from one. In fact I will probably put the old board in another case and set up a system for my sister with it. This was one of MSI's successful boards. I know that they had some flaky boards after the K8N Neo Platinum but this board was great.
