OLD SCHOOL HOUSE MUSIC

im well into house music......but i think the early days saw the best house music...even tho i wasnt alive then, the people who played back then dont get much of a mention now (in the uk anyway) and im sick of all the cheesey trance rubbish floating out of europe

would like you house fans out there to post your favourite classic tracks.......im talkin 80-90's

soul to soul, orbital, orb, happy mundays, black box etc (watever they were called) etc......dont know many DJ's or groups from that era so i am missing loads!!!

i like most types of house....if its got a touch of hip hop even better....i love sugar hill gang and Criminal Element Orchestra - put the needle to the record.

Carl Cox is the best DJ in the world closely followed by eric morillo and then donald glaude.....in my book anyway.... i like them because their sets have so much energy they are not the usual slap a record on and have a drink and a chat for 10 mins....they work each an every record.

so please post your favourite house tunes........preferably older ones from the 80's or 90's but any of todays house will do long as its good!!

might as well post ur favourite dj's too! any of u willing enough to give me a breif history of the house scene when it first started will be much appreciated!! thanks in advance.!!....

heh, i read your topic and saw "OLD SCHOOL HOUSE MUSIC" and thought of school house rock.
oops. in other words, I'm no help but heres a bump.

Man, I was so deep into house for years.

Little Louis Vega is one of the best, and hes still around.

When I think old school house, I think M.A.R.R.S. - Pump up the Volume. Back then I just didn't know much about house music, just listened to whatever house they played on the radio (Toronto back in the good ol' Energy 108 days.)

Yeah, same. I figured it would either be that or something about songs that kids had to sing in school. 😉

No Problem...I found that page 4 years ago....and the webmaster has been updating it pretty regularly. It really helps me up here in Dubuque where house music is reallly scarce....

Old school house can mean a lot of different things depending on where you're from and how old you are. Almost the majority of old school house was recorded in the late 70's to the late 90's. The house scene in Chicago was really big and New York and Detroit were respectable as well.

I have a lot of friends who DJ old school house sets and most of their music is kind of discoish but some of the stuff in the mid 80's to early 90's are a bit more modern although not quite like the trance and current house music. Unfortunately its really hard to track down a lot old school house because probably about 90% of that stuff is out of print. But if you're really interested I can look up some of the artists and songs for you. In fact I've been thinking about finding a place that will repress vinyl and trying to sell some of those old school records.

Old, depends on how long you have listened, other than that it's realy splitting hairs because there are a hundreded different names for very similar music.

How about this one, Norman Cook. Now that REALLY depends on how long you have listened to his music.

You can find alot of old school house that they use to play in the Chicago/New York Clubs like the warehouse and medusa's in the UK. In fact alot of the DJ's that played house moved overseas once the scene seemed to die down here.
