The Ms. Pac-Man score of 874,530 seems a bit low to me to be an all time high score.

Waaay low . . .. :p
(i know it's at least 3 million)

and what's the 2 scores for Q*bert - 2 million and 33 million
(i played it for 16 hours straight on a quarter . . . . can't imagine how long you'd need to play to get 33 million) :p

SF2-Turbo seems EXTREMELY low. It's been a long time since I've played it in the arcade, but I know in the SNES you get 30k for a perfect on most, 50k for a perfect on the 3 bosses, and 80k for a perfect on Bison. (yes, I've done it.) Add in the bonus stages and I'd expect the high score to be closer to a million. 30k*2*7+30k*2+50k*2*3+80k*2+moves+time==940k max+time+moves. Given the state of the fighting game community, I would actually expect that someone, somewhere, can, and probably has, gone through without damage.

i was only marginally decent at a couple games, Robotron, Qix, i didn't totally suck at Defender, although i couldn't play for hours on one quarter like the masters

That's wrong. MTV had a special about the guy who got a perfect score in pacman. It's higher than what that page says. Who knows how many scores are incorrect.

Yep! They were *THE* place to hang out during their golden years in the early 80s.

The youth of today have no idea of what the experience was like (80s rock music blaring and mixing with the unmistakable sounds of Asteroids, Pac Man, Moon Patrol, defender, etc.....)

Yep, that page is off. When I was a kid, my neighbor was Steve Krogman. Do a google search and note his Galaga score... much higher than those on this page... here's another source:
Linkage

I know Steve's scores were verified in a few contests and public events. (Of which I had no involvement, just read about them recently actually, but, thought it was pretty interesting.)

wtf? How do you get a "perfect score" for pacman? The game just keeps going and going and going.
When I was a kid, I knew the patterns to use... there were about 15 or 20 that you had to memorize... but then, every time you ate a power pill, the ghosts were all right there to gobble up within 1 dot - everyone I knew who was any good could play pacman for hours on a quarter.

Same with space invaders... 1 quarter meant you could play as long as you wanted. They can only start down so low, and after that point, every level was the same.

yip they were. We went to a mall that i hung out at when i was a kid last sunday and the Red Robin Arcade is still there, but man it has changed.

the place used to be packed with cool games and packed with kids playing them. Now it only has half the games and most of them are those big ass stand on japanese games. They have 3 of those stupid dancing games that i see people hopping up and down on...

My wife and I were sad... so many memories in that place. I bet if they brought back all the really cool and popular games that were in the 1980's that place would rake in the cash.

Hey i just got a business Idea. a Retro arcade... Hummmm.....

Well if you want to start small with your basement, this website can help:

Arcade Ambience Project

He has created a few MP3 files there that are the cacophony of arcade sounds! I put on some headphones and gave it a listen - transported me back to 1983. :)

It was great!!!!.... Riding your BMX bike to the arcade with a pocket full of quarters, smoking cigerettes (it was leagal to smoke in buildings back then), donkey kong was new, there might be a pool table or two in the back where the older kids hung out, smoking pot for the first time behind the arcade.... ahhh memories......

There was an article in WIRED (or was it FHM?) a month or so ago about the guy that keeps THE OFFICIAL record books on these things. He used to own an arcade and eventually grew into the roll of this "arcade official"

I forget the article, and cant seem to find it online on their websites.... damn

Pacman bugs out after you hit the bit limit for level number (255 probably) and half the screen bugs out so the game crashes

NEWS
For years, people have been attempting to get a perfect score on PacMan. Even after the game was forgotten by most of the world, many continued to strive to have the ultimate PacMan experience. Now, finally, someone has.

Billy Mitchell, 33, of Fort Lauderdale scored a perfect 3,333,360 points on a PacMan machine in Weirs Beach, New Hampshire. The perfect score is achieved by playing for six hours, through 256 levels of PacMan, eating every dot, energizer, blue ghost, and piece of fruit on every single level, without dying once. After the 256th level, the game freezes.

Previously, people have scored 90 points short of the astronomical total, but Mitchell will go down in history as being the first person to conquer PacMan utterly and completely. When he stepped away from the game after crushing it, he stated "I never have to play that darn game again..." Read more here.
