I have an Enermax 431W eg465p-ve in my old computer. First, is it compatible with a 975 chipset motherboard? And also will this work ok with the new core2duo + nvidia 8800gts?

Thanks

If you are in a combination with the Core2 Duo and the 8800gts you will want a beefy power supply. 600+ I would think. I would check the minimum recommendations for both which can be found with a little bit of searching.

Some top end video cards have specific requirements and some power supplies specifically state what they are capable off.

I'm not going to look for your unit...Link it w/specs, please.

You will want a PSU with more amps on the 12V rail/s than the 5V rail.
I think you will find your old Enermax is the opposite.

GTS minimum specs are:

Minimum 400W or greater system power supply (with 12V current rating of 26A).

Your power supply is listed as:

Link

5A / 20A

So it will be a no go, or won't last long if it works at all.

Time to get a new PS.

Can someone further explain this amps per rail thing and why the requirements for new GPUs in this regard are different than old ones? Is my Antec SP-400 the same deal as his Enermax or is it good for new GPUs?
