Old polaroid pictures

I have some old photos that were taken with polaroid cameras in the 1980's . The problem is they are so glossy that getting good scans is hard. Since polaroid used a self developing process is it possible to take apart a polaroid picture and separate it from the glossy cover layer ?

Ummm most scanners have pic-editing software that will take care of this problem, they do miracles, I have scanned a many Polaroid pics into my harddrive and they look almost as good as digital.
