Old PII MOBO - How do I know the max processor speed?

I have an old Micron desktop with a Pentium II 266 Processor installed. I did some research and determined it is running on the Intel 440LX chip set.

What is the fastest processor this board will accept? Is it worth it to upgrade? I'm only using it to chump SETI and do file/print serving so its doesn't need alot of horsepower. But, if I can get a cheap PII, I'd do it.

check intel's website for info on that chipset
then check the motherboard maker's website and see if you can find info on the board (you might have to update the bios to accept faster cpu's)
according to this websitewebsite the fastest P2 they made was a 450mhz chip
i noticed that some have 512kb cache at half speed and others have 256kb at full speed as far as seti goes i think the faster cache would benefit it more since it shouldn't be too large (correct me if i'm wrong anyone)
hope this sets you on the way

Even if the MB can go up to the Pentium 3's in terms of FSB/Multiplier support, make sure the voltage can be changed to the P3's voltage. My P2B required a power converter to run a P3 750.

The Intel 440LX chipset only supports the 66MHz FSB.

The fastest processors that you can use, assuming that you do not have Coppermine voltage support, are the Pentium II 333MHz or the PPGA Celeron 533MHz.
