From time to time I see Charlie Brown pop up on the radar. I heard yesterday that somebody is making a new movie about it. Every time this happens I cringe because I remember how much I hate Charlie Brown. I'm not a kid, but I'm not old; I grew up with cartoons that had lasers and robots.

Today I googled "kids hate charlie brown" because I do believe that most kids these days would, if given the choice, hate Charlie Brown. Generally their parents probably know better than to bother, though.

The first hit back I got was this:

http://deadspin.com/5710158/fuck-you-charlie-brown

I think the author nailed it very eloquently.

Bah, I put up charlie brown on the ole TV for the holidays. Kids are 6+2, don't seem to mind. They like the piano music, and Snoopy :p

Charlie Brown's a classic. It isn't Xmas without Charlie Brown, Rudolph, and Frosty.

Anyone know when the Great Pumpkin is showing this year? I've been searching for days, but nothing...
EDIT: Found it - It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will air Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from 8:00 - 8:30 PM on ABC.

i've watched the Great Pumpkin every year for almost 30 years growing up. i watch it now every year with my kids. Halloween doesn't feel right without watching it. I love Charlie Brown. Good grief, I'm old :(

Charlie Brown is an icon of an era 60's and 70's like Li'l Abner was of the 40's and 50's. If you were a 'yout' in the 60's, you identified with at least one character in the Charlie Brown strip.

P.S. Charlie Brown today isn't for kids, it's for us old geezers who remember.

When I first started playing the piano years ago...my teacher had me playing music from Charlie Brown.

I have a Love/Hate relationship with it now.

Never cared for Charlie Brown or most Warner Bros. cartoons growing up, but it was still pushed on me.
I can't hate it when I refuse to pay it much of any mind or care about it.

Many people, Americans in particular, have a problem with perspective. Not only do people in other places, right now today, think differently than whatever you consider "normal," people in different times/generations think differently. That is one of the main reasons "youts" have disconnects with parents and society.

You'd think the intarwebs would rub our noses in these differences every day but, instead, we've evolved an entirely new form of society online. That's why many of us appreciate XKCD and Penny Arcade. Having to explain why Charlie Brown is funny, requires explaining our perspective, a not so funny exercise.

Nobody liked Charlie Brown. Nobody was supposed to like Charlie Brown. The point of Charlie Brown was to be the foil that contrasted against Snoopy. Snoopy was who you were supposed to like. Charlie Brown was there to make Snoopy look awesome.

Did you know Snoopy was a WWI ace airman who defeated the Red Baron? Yeah, Snoopy was the shit. Charlie Brown was so messed up he spent all his allowance money each week getting psychiatric help from Lucy van Pelt. At best all you feel was pity for Charlie Brown.

They only gave you rounded scissors to play with, didn't they?
