Old NIC, new x64 System?

I have a 64 bit system, running Windows x64 Pro.

My Question:
Can I take an old, regular, PCI NIC and throw it in my new computer?

I did, and downloaded the drivers and attempted to install them through device manager (not an exe or anything), but it didn't work. I'm wondering if the drivers didn't work out or that isn't something that SHOULD work...

Can someone give me a little help?

As long as the NIC card itself works, and you have 64-bit drivers for the NIC card, it should work just fine.

Well... It's a regular Compaq NIC. When I went to their site it looked like they only had one driver set which covered ALL of their NIC's. It didn't talk about 64 bit it all, so is it likely that it *won't* work?
