Old motherboard, new case with USB 2.0

Hey all. Still using my old bx motherboard but with a newer case that has the USB ports in the front with the cables coming from them to the motherboard. The old bx board has nothing to hook these USB 2.0 puppies up to. I do have a pci card with USB 2.0 and it has an internal usb port. IS there any kind of adapter cable or ?? to plug into the internal usb port and the other end hook up to the wiring going to the USB ports in the front? Thanks in advance!!

That cable should have been supplied with the new case - if the case has front ports, the manufacturer will provide cables from those ports to the headers on the motherboard.

If there are wires attached to the front ports, you should be able to connect the usb ports on the card using the pinout from the manual.

The cables came with the new case but will not hook up to the motherboard and be USB 2.0 It will stay 1.1 of which the motherboard is only capable of. As for the USB card, it has four ports coming out the back and the one that is internal. There are no pin on the card to hook up the wires to that lead to the USB ports on the front of the case... Any more ideas???

Oh okay - I assumed an internal port would be a header, not an actual port.

What you are looking for DOES exist.

However, with only one internal port, only one of your front ports can be wired. You can wire the other one to the motherboard, and have one usb1.1 and one usb2 front port.

Yeeeehhaaaaa!!!! That is it! Any knowledge if it comes with a 2 to 1 or if there is a USB y cable available somewhere? Thanks!! I thought of the splice method by ltc8k6 but I want to keep the cables as new.. Thanks

Front-x has the adapter cable cheaper: http://www.frontx.com/order_a.html .

You don't want to "Y" USB cables together unless you are !!!ABSOLUTELY SURE!!! that only one will have something connected to it at a time. How often are you going to need both front ports anyway - just leave one disconnected. If you really need more ports, get a mini hub...

Definitely can't use a Y cable - but you could buy two and route one of your rear ports to the front, or you can connect one of the usb1.1 ports from the motherboard. Unless you expect to use two mass storage devices simultaneously on front usb ports, this is probably the best solution.
