Old mother wants build ideas for Diablo 3

I’ve been building PC’s off and on for 20 years and found Anand’s web site when it first started and visit from time to time. I want a nice PC to play Diablo 3 when ever it comes out.

I’m not interested in overclocking or SLI/Xfire so it seems I don’t need a mb with all the bells & whistles but of course will require a nice GPU.

Can anyone suggest a nice mb for my needs to get me started? I’m not sure if I should go Intel or AMD for this or ATI or Nvidia, any thoughts on that too are welcomed.

Umm... wait for Diablo 3 release date announcement first. At least 1 generation (I'd wager 2) of cpu and gpu will be out before it's released. To give you an idea:
< 3 months ago: sites advertised 12/1/2010
< 1 month ago: sites advertised 3/1/2011
And there's no official word about it from Blizzard so don't expect it to be out within the next 11 months I'd say.

Thanks for your input and even though I knew it may still be some time I hadn't thought that up to 2 generations of CPU's & GPU's would be out by then. Still, they usually don't require you to have the most extreme system to play we all know games work better with better equipment. So, not sure what I'll do now but will think it over and maybe use my laptop until close to release date as my desktop is getting slow.

If Diablo 3 is the only reason that you're interested in a new system, wait until closer to the release date. By that time you'll get more performance for your dollar and we'll have a good idea of what the requirements are like.
