Im putting together an old amd 1800+ with mobo that only has IDE connectors. Is there an IDE to SATA type of cable / adapter that can then make the mobo utilize sata drives thats cheap?

Those converters are a temporary solution at best, I'd suggest trading your SATA drive for an IDE one or looking in FS/FT for a low cost IDe drive. Heck, you can probably find one in the freebies section too!

You can also easily find PCI SATA drive controllers for $10 and up. These normally can attach two or more SATA drives and are bootable if you wish.
