But shortly after 2 a.m. yesterday, Crawford's niece heard the car horn blaring in front of their South Ozone Park home. By the time she got outside, the car was engulfed in flames.
Police said they were not sure if Crawford died before or after the fire ignited.

That makes no sense at all...

How the hell was he honking the horn??? wow... those police must be dumber than a box of hammers.

He could have died of a heart attack and the fire was caused by a cigarette or he could have just passed out and gotten killed by the fire.

Think about it... if he passed out or passed away or whatever in the driver's seat, he would've likely ended up leaning forward, thus putting pressure on the steering wheel, specifically where the button for the horn is. The article said the horn was blaring, as in continuously going.
