Old LCD Flat Panel on its last "light"?

I have an old Gateway FPD-1500 15" Flat Panel monitor, that I think is about to die. The monitor is a digital only and was manufactured in May 1999 (you know, in the 20th century 😛)

It seems to "flicker" or "shake" as if the refresh rate is incorrect. I have tried multiple refresh rates on multiple PC's with different video cards (including the video card that came with the monitor). I have loaded the monitor driver and the appropriate driver for each of the video cards I tested it with.

Is this just a case of the backlight on the panel going out? It worked just fine 2 months ago when I put it in the closet and displayed problems yesterday when I pulled it out to set up a new system.

Any thoughts or anything else I can try? The only "controls" this old monitor has is brightness.
