old laptop

I just came in possession of an old 200mhz pentium laptop. There isn't much I can do with it, so i was wondering if there are any cool mods or parts I could pull out of it to use. Even with linux, I think even the fastest window manager would be unbearably slow. Could I rip out the lcd and do something fun with it?

heheh i think any modding involving a laptop would be much more hardcore than anything i would EVER think of doing...

I have an old Sony laptop with a 166Mhz Pentium that runs Win XP just fine. If yours is short on memory it should be no trick to find old notebook memory cheap. I paid $20 for 2 64meg SODIMMS. The only thing that was unbearably slow was the installation. All the hardware was supported by native XP drivers. Try it. You might like it.

Win98 should work great with it. I wouldn't touch win2k or higher. Could make for a decent kiosk machine, set up a wireless card with a thin client and it'll be very usable.

I'm posting from a Dell Latitiude PII-266. It came with a whole 64mb of memory. I added another 64mb. With 128mb of memory, I can have about half a dozen IE windows + Outlook open with no probs. Running W2KSP3 on it.

Can't play any games but Solitaire and the original Diablo, but hey, it was CHEAP. 🙂
