old laptop help

I have an old Toshiba Portege 650CT laptop computer that I was trying to get to work, but when I boot it, it only goes through the memory init stage and then halts. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is, how I can fix it, or where to look for solutions?

Thanks

Well, can you even get into the BIOS? If you can't there is not much you can do. If you can get to the BIOS, then set it so that it can boot off a boot floppy and boot the system with a boot floppy. Then see if it detects any hard drives, etc., and then try load an OS onto it if none is present (which is probably the case).
