Old iBook ethernet problem

I have an old tangerine Mac ibook with built in ethernet that I cant seem to get working. I'm a PC person, so Mac's are alien to me.

Anyway, I've tried enabling DHCP but ethernet doesnt seem to work. In an app called "Apple System Profiler" it says that the ethernet is "down". Is there something in the iBook BIOS (if there is such a thing) that needs to be turned on?
I looked everywhere on the system and cant find anything that enables ethernet.

Hey Mac people, help me out!

Have you tried setting a static ip? Is the cable good? Is it the proper cable? Is it plugged into a switch/hub/router/etc?
