I have a few Honda QA50 bikes, one is a 69 and the other is a 70 or 71. Both are red and need engines. One I rode as a kid and rode the piss out of it and the other I picked up from eBay a couple years ago.

I'm wanting to stick a cheap chinese engine in them, probably a lifan with 3 speed automatic. My 7 and 9 year olds are going to be riding them, so a simple and reliable kickstart mechanism will suffice.

Any of you use these chinese lifans or other clones and had luck with them? Where is a good place to purchase these engines?

Both bikes had rotted tires and broken throttle assemblies so I went to bikebandit and bought new rubber, innertubes, throttle assemblies, and am ready to get the engine and go. I also need to get the seats redone and a few other misc items but nothing too major.

Wow, that brings back memories. When I was a kid I had a Honda Trail 70 - good times. I think it was a '69.

Have no idea about Lifan engines though, sorry.

I have a big crank/cam/bore on an old POS ct70 i got on the cheap. They sell a 4 speed trans kit also on that site. The speedo only goes to 50 and i can get there pretty quick. The great thing about MI is that its easy to plate stuff, so i have a plate on it and drive it around town once in a while.

The Lifan engines are supposed to be decent.
