old Hard drive slow down

i just put an old 3 gig IDEhard drive into my rig, along withmy current 80 gig SATA.

i reformatted the old hd but it seems to be slowing my computer down and its lagging.
could this be the reason??
 
Have you checked the jumper setting on back of the hard drive? What is it set on, cable select, master or slave?
