old hard drive into new computer

I am trying to take the files such as MP3, and picture files from the hard drive on my old computer, still windows xp, onto my new computer. BIOS recognizes the drive, and so does the device manager. I cannot get it to pop up in My Computer to pull the files from it. I have done this before, anyone out there that is able to help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Look in Disk management to see if the drive is there (Start-Run-diskmgmt.msc).

The drive could be trying to use a drive letter already assigned to another drive.

Is the "old" drive on a cable with another drive? Put it on its own cable temporarily. The master/slave jumpers may not be correctly set.
