Old Guster > New Guster

Some of their old stuff is great mellow rock. Their new stuff just wallows in agony begging to be put out of its misery.

I've never heard of Guster and I've been around awhile. I take it that the "old stuff" is maybe what, 5 years old? 😕

According to allmusic.com, Guster was formed in 1992 and their first major label release was in 1995. Good album. I like all their stuff, including the new stuff. Lost and Gone Forever is a great album.

<3 Guster! I like most of the stuff I have heard from them so far, is new meaning their album that is being released soon?

On a side note: Did anyone like their live album? I know I did.

LAGF is the first album where many people started to take notice.

I really like all of their stuff and I guess I'm in the minority in that I like the newer stuff better for the most part.

I received a pre-release of the new album and just found it lacking the energy and spark that made the older stuff more interesting. I wasn't aware that the album was not in general release yet. My apologies for the confusion. I really liked a few songs on the prior album with Amsterdam. I loved their albums with the airport song and fa fa fa, barrel of a gun, etc.

i haven't listened to them much although one of my friends was all about them in high school

I listened to ganging up on the sun, and I agree with you - it kind of takes the worst of lost and gone forever (the slow and melodramatic filler) and expands on it. Personally, I think they've been peaky - there were a few great songs on goldfly, one or two on lgf, and i enjoyed pretty much every song on keep it together. The new one - kind of "eh" in general. "the captain" has the same kind of feel as jesus on the radio, which is good for a while, and one man wrecking machine is good, but the rest kind of blends together.
