I'm currently playing old space games ( Wing Commander,Tachyon, Starcraft,DarkStar I,etc.) on Win XP Pro. I plan on a new build using Win 7 64 bit. Will these old games load on the new OS?

Starcraft will work, worst case scenario for the rest is they may need DOSbox or a virtual machine to run.

Many which work on XP will work natively on Win 7 as well, or by using the "compatibility mode." For anything else DOSBOX should do the trick.

The compatibility mode never made any difference for me until the other day.

Majesty Gold kept freezing on me, and I tried everything I could find to fix it. Nothing worked.

Some people had suggested that using Win95 compatibility solves it so I used it as a last ditch effort. It hasn't frozen since.

So I guess it actually can work.

I couldn't get Alpha Centauri to work on Win7, but, It worked just fine for me in a Win98 VMware session. Haven't tried any of the ones you mentioned in Win7...

Even with all these suggestions you may run into trouble.

I for the life of me can't get FarCry with the 1.4 Patch to run on Win7 x64.

I can't even get Quake 4 to install.

I've seen video cards make a difference. My current xp machine wouldn't run Warlords II when I had an Nvidia card (it would under DosBox). I swapped out to a ATI whatever and now it runs it fine. My old machine at work would run it fine too, it was a generic Dell without a card.

The only game I've ever encountered that wouldnt work in Win7 was Missionforce: Cyberstorm, which seems to require a WinXP VM to run. Everything else has worked fine for me.

Anyone here know how to get Nuclear Strike to work? It's an old helicopter-shooter game made by EA. I used to play it back when I still had Windows 95 but I tried playing it the other day and the thing just won't start. Tried all of the compatibility options and none of them did anything.
I'm thinking of installing VM with Windows 98 installed but I'm wondering if anything else would work...

Did you try the change forceoldvoxel algorithm to 1 instead of 0?

The game isn't that old but I can't get Act of war Direct Action to run on Win7 64bit. It was a issue with 64bit OS.
