I have had this problem on both my old Pentium III and the new FX-53 machines:

I am running Magic the Gathering in Win 95 (in the new machine, I am running a virtual machine running Win 95 in my XP Pro machine).

In both the PIII and the FX-53, the game runs, but way too fast to control the figure exploring the "Shandalar" map.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Schad -- THANKS! looks worth a try. Do you know the company? Is it a reputable outfit?

Bio -- You need to run Magic in Win 95 or Win 98 -- if you're running XP, you need one of the virtual machine programs -- Microsoft is now marketing one (with a free 30 day trial) or VMWare (which also has a trial). I am able to run Alpha Centauri on a virtual machine. I am about to try Sid Meier's RR Tycoon (a DOS game), another of my old favorites (one of the best simulation games I have ever played).

This Mo'Slo program to which Schad refers may do the trick as far as slowing things down to a manageable speed for Magic t G. Here's hoping! I like the game too!

Shandalar is awesome. I'm putting together a P2 333 in hopes of getting it to work at the right speed. If they remade that game with updated graphics/engine I don't think I would ever leave my house again.

For what it's worth, Microsoft bought out Connectix, so my guess is it's the same as Connectix's Virtual PC software.

I remember having to wait upto 10 minutes for the computer to make it's move on my PII 400. There is also a game out there called MtG:Battlegrounds but I have not picked it up. Anyone here still play the card game?

Battlegrounds is semi-decent but it really has nothing to do with the trading card game. Basically the battle arena is split in 2, a side for you and a side for your partner. You walk around picking up mana that spawns on your side and use it to cast cards in your hand. If it's a creature, it will walk over and attack your opponent, etc. Gets boring quick. I quit playing magic about 6 months ago but I was pretty serious about it when I played. I never qualified for a Pro Tour but I made multiple PTQ T8's and finished in the money at a Grand Prix.

I was a serious player from the release of Unlimited until Ice Age. Back then it was really up to the player to figure out how to combine the cards in to tournament level deck. Now you can buy boxed decks that are pre-made that just need a little more tweaking to be at that level. The newer cards also pack more bang for the buck. Less mana cost to do the same thing that it took two old school cards to do. Yes I own the "Power 9" and no they are not for trade.

Ghoti -

You can play SMAC natively in Win2K or WinXP. Firaxis put a patch to make it ocmpatible with XP on their web site.

beer --

Thanks; I tried that -- wouldn't run -- got error message: incompatible CPU (I am running FX-53). I don't know why it runs on WIN95 virtual machine, but it does (tho I had to switch down to 256 colors; I am still able to run K7).

Still would like to hear from Schad as to what he can tell me about the outfit that makes/ sells Mo'Slo.
