Old Dell DDR2 memory question

My old Dell 5150 came with 2x 256mb sticks of DDR2, a few years ago I went out and bought a single stick of Corsair 1G DDR2-667 (CMR1G667) and plugged it into slot #3 in the hopes of improving the system performance...

Is a single stick of RAM going to help in slot #3, even though it's twice the size of the other 2 sticks combined, or should I swap them... put the 1G in slot #1, and the older RAM in #3 & 4? ...or just leave it out?

I dunno... 😕

Having 1.5GB of RAM over 0.5GB will be alot more benficial than running 0.5GB in dual channel, if that PC even does that. Can't be bothered to check.

Ultimately all 3 modules will run at the speed of the lowest module. The order of how they are installed will not matter. Stick all 3 DIMMS in.

I ran a bunch of tests a while back for my own benefit and I never saw much of a gain of dual vs. single channel fo the AVERAGE user. I did see a benefit of volume over speed though.

You can also cruise the freebies thread and see if you can pick up some more memory for basically the cost of shipping.
