I have an old computer with a cyrix 300 processor in it, and I'm thinking about using it for a file server, firewall, etc.

This would work ok if I had some linux version, correct?

Anway, I ask because I want to keep this computer quiet, so I was wondering if I could run it with just a heatsink....if so, what cheapish heatsink would work? I don't want to put any money in this if I don't have to. Everything is built in to the motherboard so there isn't much heat in the case at all.

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't risk it, Cyrix have been known to catch on fire. Though you could prob just go with a heatsink and a case fan, just make sure the case fan blows across the heatsink.

currently it has a tiny heatsink and fan that speeds up and slows down because it's broken :)
