Old computer game owning Athlon 64 3700+ w/ 2gb of RAM? Computer slllooooww

My dad has setup his new computer, an HP AMD 64 3700+ with 2GB of PC3200 ram. The only thing he does on the computer is play an old fishing game (Fishsim). On his old computer, he able to minimize the game and do anything else he needed, ie, surf the web, whatever. Now, on the new computer, the fishsim game is taking up 99-100% CPU so Windows is so incredibly slow, he can't do anything but play the game. How can we fix this? Thank you!

What OS did his old computer run?

If it wasn't XP, then maybe try running the game in a different compatibility mode?

Why does he minimize the game and not just close it?

Dark, both computers run on WinXP. He minimizes because it's a part of the fishing game... when you minimize, the icon on the taskbar will flash when you have a fish on, so you can kind of "fish" while you're doing other stuff on the comp.

I'll try compatibility and see what happens.

Thats a DOS based game isn't it? Windows XP's emulation of 16 bit DOS is the problem. It happens on MOST pc's with XP installed.

I'm not sure if it's DOS based, but I do know that is ran perfectly fine on his old Dell (P4 3.0) when he minimized, and now his AMD 64 3700+ comes to a crawl when he minimizes the game.
