City Supervisor David Campos, who represents the Bernal Heights neighborhood, said he's received passionate e-mails from people on both sides the debate. Some are concerned that the sign promotes a sugary drink, sending a dangerous message to students at a nearby elementary school.
"We're trying to fight childhood obesity," Campos said. "We don't want to promote kids drinking Coca-Cola."

Son of Bitch fucking get off it already, Sugar in a can has fucking been around since 1894. The problem is the parents not telling the kids to get the fuck of the couch and shut the game console off.

It seems to me everything I read about San Francisco is about some goverment official wanting to ban something.

If that sign actually got kids to crave Coca-Cola, why don't they put up signs telling kids to study hard and stay in school and don't do drugs? Wouldn't that work?

When they can show me that banning toys in Happy Meals had an appreciable difference in childhood obesity, they can start discussing new legislation like this. Til then, this is retarded.

Yawn. You can't spell SNAFU without S and F.

Reading old Coca-Cola sign, I assumed it would be something that one could see getting people anxious, like swastikas or cocaine references. I am highly disappointed.

Some years back the NRA wanted to have their monthly meeting at an SF public library, the city wouldn't allow it. They did however allow NAMBLA to hold their monthly meeting at the library.
They felt discussing legal firearms wasn't what SF wanted, but discussing fucking little boy's was perfectly acceptable.

I avoid the place like the diseased shit hole it is.

OP: waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

You don't read much. But good for them.

Yes, that's just how advertising works.

Put up ads for coke, candy, cigarettes, cocaine, porn; or for broccoli.

It's the same thing. Put that broccoli ad up, and people will all eat broccoli.

Clueless. BTW, where ads ARE helpful for things like 'don't use drugs', they have them.

LOL talk about clueless. His point sailed right over your head. As usual, you never disappoint whenever the task is to make yourself look the fool.

Silly Craig.

The kids aren't the ones buying the soda so it makes no sense to make a point about kids seeing the sign.

Yeah, the epidemic of obesity and diabetes is no problem.

Maybe so but that still doesn't give the "holier than thou" folks the right to say that nobody can drink it.

It's things like this that make me shake my head. This may be a small issue but it's a symptom of a much larger problem. We shouldn't be relying on the government to make these decisions for us. Where did we get the idea that they knows best?! The government makes piss poor choices all the time.

Are you as moronic in real life, as you are on the internet?

Holy crap man, go back to Stalinist Russia and give us a break. :)

Link?

It thanks you, and feels the same about you.

No link, I saw it on television news. Oddly enough, it was an SF local station that ran the piece. I'm sure a google search would turn up something, but I don't care enough to bother doing it.

Let's see how well your theory works
