old cdrw problem

hi guys,

a friend gave me some old parts and im just trying to throw together a simple system to do little word processing and stuff like that. one part was an old 4x cdrw drive that comes with a ISA card. any clue as to what i need to do to get the drive detected? thanks!
 
if you have a card to run it, im guessing its probably a scsi device. what OS are you running on it? Windows might just auto detect it correctly. you may also have to look at the card and see if you can figure out who made it so you can find drivers for it, if they are even available. once your scsi card is working in windows, the CD shouldnt need any extra drivers, but a few older types have had to have drivers... which may be hard to find also if you cant figure out who made them.
 
oh really? havent ever used a scsi device, so im not too clear on this.
the card that comes with it fits into an ISA slot and it can still be scsi?

get the name and # off the card

second
type in data found Here

third

goto the websites it lists and see if they still have drivers for it

fourth

download said drivers after installing the card and cdrw and (connect cable) into computer

try it out

I just did this for a friend and was able to find drivers at the websites that the search engine listed

worked like a charm

hi, thanks for the tips! the link however doesnt work for me. the card is adaptec 1520 and i tried adding the hardware thru the controlpanel->add/remove harware for win2k and it did it fine, however, the card is still not being detected. i think i might try manually setting in the bios to look for legacy isa devices on a particular irq...if you've got the link though, i'd appreicate it! thanks!
