As a gift, my cuz gave me his old evga 6800 gt PCI E GPU.

I HAD the 6600 GT, so it's kind of an upgrade for me.

Anyway, I know that it's not the 8800 series, but I know that the 6800GT was a great card for its time.

I wanted to know what kinds of game I could play on my PC to truly appreciate the "power" this new "old" card has, which my 6600GT did not have.

I have CoH, and I'm going to install that. Any other suggestions?

I also had Far Cry, and is it worth it to get Crysis?

Any HL2 game. Far Cry. FEAR. Those are the "prettiest" games that came out about the time of that card.

Not being enamored of either FPS games, or RTS, I can only say that my own 6800 GT worked relatively well for Oblivion, The Witcher, and for NWN2 (though not as well as two different PCs that had X800 / X850 video cards). I now have an X1900 in the fastest of them, so the 6800 GT has been retired.

Not crysis. I ran teh demo...at 800x600 with everything on LOW.
Far Cry, and HL2 games are a cake.

edit: GTA:SA on max settings at 1680x1050 easy

CoD4 runs pretty decent with a 6800GT. Crysis is gonna kill that card though.

I was able to max F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate which is slighly more demanding than the original F.E.A.R. at 1280x1024 with 4x FSAA Adaptive Multi Sampling and never went below 40fps, so an 8800 Ultra can eat it for breakfast.

Still using the GS too!
I need to upgrade badly though... Crysis on low isn't pretty.

I had a 6800gt when I first played fear. I had to turn the settings way down to make it playable until I replaced that card with a 7800gt. It's old school and was ok for it's time but that time passed several years ago.

Strange, that card is not much slower than my old X800XT PE and I was able to max out the game at 1024x768 with 4x FSAA and 16x AF and it would run between 29 and 66fps with no issues, and able to increase the resolution up to 1280x1024 with 2x FSAA, is true that in games after 2006, the gap between the R420 architecture and the NV40 widened considerably, but F.E.A.R. came before that. Probably driver issues or a severe CPU bottlenecking which I doubt cause F.E.A.R. as many games today tends to be very GPU bound.
