old car with low mileage on craigslist...trustworthy?

how can i truly tell how much the car was driven if i cant trust the odometer?

Run a vin number check

Yeah, VIN lookups are generally pretty good for mileage checks.

An old trick is to look at the pedals. Are they consistent with the age/mileage--Not too worn, nor brand new (suspicious!). Same principle applies to other parts of the car.

If this car spent its life in Philly, then I'm not sure if low mileage is necessary a good thing. It's possible that the miles were accrued over short drives and stop/go traffic . . . bad.
