I recently moved from Asheville, NC (Where I had @Home for my internet-cable provider) to Raleigh, NC, where I have Roadrunner. I wanted to use the cable modem that I purchased in Asheville to save me $3/month on the internet bill here (it is already nearly $40/month more expensive than Asheville!!). Well, the people at customer service said they had configured the account for my old modem with the MAC#, but it never recieves a good enough signal. The cable light just blinks forever, and then the modem resets itself, and it tries over and over and never gets a signal. However, THEIR modem will get a signal immediately when I hook it up. Roadrunner claims that my modem is broken so I should use theirs, but I was just using mine a month ago and went to extra-measures to make sure it wouldn't get messed up. What do you think is up? :\

RoadRunner uses proprietary modems... ie... the one that u used for @home most likely won't work... also they get to pick what frequencies etc so the one for @home probably isn't set up right if it is the correct type...

RoadRunner does not use proprietary modems, they use DOCSIS certified modems. This meas as long as the modem you own is DOCSIS certified you can use it with their service. If it is not certified it likely won't work.

I use this modem Toshiba PCX1100

Phoenix... i dont' know about your RR service... but mine uses a proprietary one...
i have a motorola cybersurfr or something like that...
Clearly show under proprietary...
The actual modem
Unless they changed things... which they could have (my area was the first area in the nation to recived RoadRunner...) anyways at least for my area i was told that it was a proprietary standard... and that the $40 a month includes the modem... but i odn't know... this is just my experience...

my cable modem is an old white motorola with a picture of road runner on it, and it is not DOCSIS

Some areas fo RR are DOCSIS, some use a hybrid system

I have Road Runner service in WI and they gave me a US Robotics modem but have switched to the Motorola modem now.
Which is better US Robotics or Motarola
