Condoleezza Rice, President George W Bush's nominee for secretary of state, has hinted at the direction of future US foreign policy by identifying six "outposts of tyranny" around the world.

been awhile since I've seen my home country highlighted on the map

Wow. Just wow. First there's the axis of evil and now ... "outposts of tyranny". Condi's elementary english teacher should be proud! How about ridding the African continent of tyranny ... oh wait ... no oil!

Before we even talk seriously about foreign policy, I wonder if it would be possible to stop this silly practice of having such dumb names for everything. This is an odd thing that's started since Bush became president, and it seems rather odd to me. Let's think about it, we have the axis of evil, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Department of Homeland Security, the PATRIOT Act, "terror" everything, and now outposts of tyranny. Why do we need this silly names? Are we all 3 years old that we can't discuss events without using some media friendly, marketing style names?

Sorry, rant over 🙂

It appeals to certain parts of the electorate. See 2004 election.

Sure, I understand that, but these particular names just seem even worse than usual, that's all. I mind Desert Storm much less than Iraqi Freedom. Plus the word "Homeland" just sounds so...I don't know, Soviet Union or something 😉

Rainsford

foreign policy is a business apparantly, just like pharmaceuticals go from iupac to brand names:

PDE-5 inhibitor --> sildenafil citrate --> viagra

its meant to give us all the furious hardon of support for mandates

Lol...it's called patriotism...they have to market it now to stuff it down your throat 🙂
If politics werent hyped...nobody would get enthusiastic about it.
I agree though it is extreme...we dont get those labels with our gov't.
