On Windows ME, while the login box is up, my old background is there, then as soon as i login, it is not. Same when i shutdown, it flashes before it turns off.

How do i fix this?

thanks
david

if your old one was set by right-clicking and "set as wallpaper" in IE, chances are you have a file called "Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp" in your windows folder... find it and delete... and it should go away~!

I have seen this many times in various versions of Windows, but I do not know why it happens.

Have you tried deleting the file?

I've never tried it (never quite cared enough to try), but it might work.

It's been a long time since I've seen this, but I remember having to fix it on all my friends' computers. I think you can fix it by choosing your current background twice(I think you have to browse to find it twice...you can't just select it twice in a row), or perhaps choose one of the built-in backgrounds and then choose your new one.

Sorry I can't give you a definite answer, it's been a few years...

I believe it has something to do with active desktop? try turning it off (right click desktop to do it) and see if that 'old' background pops up. If it does, then that means your new background has to have active desktop on to be displayed. just change the old background to something else you like and then turn active desktop back on. I have had XP for a while, so I could be wrong.....

in win 98, you could fix this by clicking cancel on the login box, it would stilll let you log in. then you could remove the old background.

crazychicken: Choose "none" for your wallpaper and click apply. Then choose the wallpaper you want. It's been quite awhile but as I remember that takes care of the problem.
