Old Athlon 1ghz system wont boot

I had a really old system lying around. Its an Athlon 1Ghz processor with 128 mb ram and a 32 mb geforce 2 mx video card, dont know the processor and motherboard model. I hadnt used it in a while, and it was just lying around, so I figured to put it to some use. However, it wont boot now. When I power it up, the processor fan starts up, but nothing else happens. No beeps, no video, nothing. What could be wrong with it? anyone has any clue?

If the processor fan is running, that means the processor is fine, and the motherboard is messed up right?

I just wanna know whats broke..the processor or the mobo?

I checked the video card already, seems to be working fine.

Thanks for your help.

NOT necessarily.
it means the processor fan is fine

strip the system down - disconnect all peripherals/hard drives/usb/key/mouse etc - everything except cpu and RAM and power.
power up and see what happens.

what psu is in the system?

no peripherals were attached. just the cpu, ram and power. Same result. fan turns on, nothing else. no beeps, no startup screens.

And the vid card? Try reseating it.

ahh great. now even the fan wont turn on. the psu is working fine, any one has any clue whats wrong?

I have another system, an athlon xp 2600 in an Asus a7n8x mobo. Could, and should, i plug in this old athlon 1 gig processor in that mobo and check if its working fine or not? or would it screw up the motherboard?

nothing comes on.......
not even for an instant....

i would think it would be a power issue, but if you are confident it isn't, then it isn't.... ;-)
next would be cpu prob......... must test it. unlikely to burn out a mobo if you try it out, but i can't guarantee it!

ok, so i plugged in my 1 ghz processor in my asus a78nx. same thing. fan starts up, and nothing else. no beeps, no screed. nothing. I take the memory stick out, still the same thing. nothing.

And this is the same system which was working fine with my xp 2600+.

Please tell me this doesnt mean my processor is dead?
