old AT case and a micro-ATX motherboard?

Hi,

a friend of mine wants to upgrade there old computer pentium mmx 233 , tx motherboard etc) and have a mini tower case.

This case has both AT and ATX power plugs. I haven't seen the case yet so i am not sure but i thought it would be an AT case. What are the chances of fitting a micro-atx motherboard in this case? Is it even possible?

it is possible. you have to change the power switch to a momentary switch. a couple of dollars @ electronic supply store.

The biggest problem would potentially be with the connectors in back. If it only has a hole for the large AT stlye keyboard connector, it will take alot of cutting to fit an ATX board in there. If it has a removable plate in back, you should be able to get a new ATX plate for it at a local computer store (or just use it without one). Also, those old power supplies didn't have the highest power outputs - a Duron or XP will probably be too much for it.

ah yes, i didn't think about the connector placings at the back. Even if it did have a removeable plate i doubt they would have even recieved the atx style on anyway. ;(

oh well looks like they need a new case anyway.

Some of the last P-200 & P-233 were in ATX cases. Micron and Gateway did this. I've taken old Gateway P-166 cases, replaced the PSU and put in an Athlon. Had to remove the tinfoil IO plate but that didn't bother much. Little more air to the CPU.
