I have acuired an old Ibm Aptiva which had win95 installed so I had a
Install win98 CD & an Install win98 floppy and after I formatted the hard disk, I out the floppy & CD in and booted the machine. It came up It couldn't find win.com. Does anyone know How I can install a new system on this machine? It does the same when I out the old 95 Disk in?
 
My guess would be that your boot disk(s) have been corrupted and will need to make a new boot disk OR, make sure the boot order is set for floppy first, in the bios, otherwise, it's going to try and boot from the MBR on the C drive, which is no longer there, since you formatted it.

It's been awhile for me, but I think the Win98 SE cd is bootable, provided you have the system set to see the CD rom as the first boot device.
