Does anyone know where to find comprehensive reviews on the old Apple Cinema Display HD 23 inch LCD?
I searched on Google, but the ones from CNET are rather brief and the rest are usually reader reviews.
Could someone help me find comprehensive reviews by reputable websites or publications about this monitor, especially articles that give it high ratings.
Thanks in advance.

I did that on Google, and I actually went through 3 of the sites of the sites you recommended.
Thanks anyway, looks I still have more digging to do.
I am trying to convince a friend to buy this monitor, but his other friend found him a Korean site that gave it a 6/10, so I need to find a reputable site giving it very high marks like 9 or 10 to counter that.
None of us understands any Korean so I can't figure out why the site think it sucks, but that 6 is really obvious and disturbing.

I can tell you why it sucks! It has a 40 milisecond response time! What does this mean you ask? It means that when you watch DVD's or play games your going to get some good ghosting when there is any action. Most people try to buy a lcd with 10-25 ms response time. Not to mention that it is just way overpriced for what you get. I know it looks good, but it really is not a good buy. There are so many more that got much better reviews.

This one is actually 25ms. The new generation is 16ms. It is the same as LG's own.
Besides if you have actually seen this monitor in action, I don't think you will say that.
Ghosting? Oh well, I've never seen any ghosting whether it is DVDs or FPS, neither did my roommate and friends.

hahahaha. I was wondering why you posted this, as searching with keywords you used in your title was producing reviews. Lots of user reviews and dealtime stuff, but the reviews are there. I also noticed that alot of the links have been moved, which is understandable since all the reviews are from 2002.

You are mistaken. At work we have all the versions of Apple's Cinema Displays, and they all work great for movies and games. No ghosting in Call of Duty and RTCW or UT2004, which we play after hours. The 20" and 23" were the best panels made at the time, so you won't really find a better LCD of that era. The only bad thing about them is lack of swivel, and ADC only.

Uhm mistaken? No, because I did not know there were new versions, they did not specify. As far as them being good for you, I wonder if how fast your computer is, because if it was a really fast machine you would see ghosting as long as this is the older 40 ms response time displays.

Mistaken.

Also, the new "G5" styled ones have DVI-in now, so they work great on a PC (no more ADC-to-DVI adapters).

Of course, for $2000 you could buy a pair of 2001FPs and still have almost enough cash left over for a 6800GT.

EDIT: Just realized the post was about the older model. Oops.

(BTW: Any reason why you want the old one? Once you factor in the cost of an ADC/DVI adapter, you might as well go for the new model and get the better response time).

The model the OP is referring to is 25ms, I don't know what version you are talking about. As I stated earlier, the panels in these displays were the best you could get in 2002, and were priced accordingly. There was a reason these displays were $3K. Is a DP 2Ghz G5 fast enough for you? at 1600x1200 no ghosting. On a DP 867Mhz G4 and 9700Pro theres no ghosting either. Apple's displays are used primarily by professionals. If ghosting was a big problem no one would use it, especially since it was Apple's flagship display at the time.

I was going to get the 23", but the lower end LCDs have improved tremendously. The $250 Hyundai L70S is excellent. Minus DVI and a larger viewing area, there isnt a whole lot of reasons to spend more. I could buy 4 of the Hyundais and have something left over before I hit the 23" HD price, and thats with a discount.

But, a coworker had two 30" HD displays and a Dual 2.5Ghz G5. It was like...the future. Absolutely amazing. You couldnt span games across it...in fact no game had the res setting for one displays native res, let alone two! Hopefully I'll get a hand me down one day.

:) Actually its funny you mention that system because that is what Im on at work. Not fair, I dont know anything about mac speeds compaired to pc speeds so I have no reference point. Anyway I think I am mistaken I was thinking about the first cinema displays 22" that first came out back around 2001, I remember watching the previews to the Matrix 3 and thinking damn this sucks, $3000 for this! Jeeze!

If someone can afford 2 grand for a monitor, what are the chances that he is running a low-end PC?

Not nessacerily, most professionals I know, when building their systems or buying a system start with the monitor first, they routinely spend more on the monitor then the comp. But I digress. This is not to say I agree with that but to open your mind a little.

I am not a professional, but what you are saying is very true. My monitor is worth more than my entire system combined.
