i have an old amd k6 motherboard socket 7. i was running a 300 processor but changed to a 500 hoping to give old puter to grandson for games,,,also added more ram,,reconised ram but still says 300 and will not reconise the new 500 processor,,,,any ideas....and help wil be appreciated

What supersocket 7 mobo is it? You will have to reset some jumpers probably so that it recognizes the multiplyer correctly.
If your old cpu was 300mhz, it might be 3x100 fsb so it should be able to take the 500mhz cpu.
You will have to change the multiplyer from 3x to 5x. If the fsb is not set at 100mhz now, then you will have to set that as well.

No problem, I just bought a K62 500mhz chip as well lately to replace my old k62 350mhz chip so that I can breath some new life into the old machine as well.
The price was right at $18 on newegg so I thought why not. It will make a good emulator machine as well as for my old dos games.
