Has anyone tried using the older version of Alpha heatsink for a Duron or FC-PGA cpus? I have several Alpha heatsinks previously used for a celeron 300A@504 and a 366@583 dual setup. I would like to salvage the heatsink and re-use them for a new setup which will either have a Duron or an Intel cpu. Can anyone provide a simple solution in using the older version of Alpha for new (fragile) cpus?

The sinks and fans should be OK, if they are flat with a recess for the lever. Some sinks had an alignment ridge that needs to be removed.

The clips may be a problem. Pressure needs to be applied squarely on the core itself, rather than the center of the sink. Your current clips may not provide the proper pressure, either. Tweaking might overcome either obstacle, new clips may be available from Alpha.

This thread describes an interesting method for making "feet" to stabilize older sinks on the new smaller cores. I have not tried it.
