anyone here brave enough to flash their old 8800gts 96sp with the bios of a newer gts with 112sp's? or anyone have a link or knowledge of this process working? i am not sure if nvidia physcially disabled the extra sp's on the older gts' for sure, or if it was just in the bios that they disabled them. just wondering if it was possible

or it was DEFECTIVE to begin with and the the defective part was disabled and it was sold as a lower end gpu... a much more likely scenario...
'
but both type of cards exist..

Nothing can be reactivated for years... they physically disable it, always.

Reminds me of the old 9500 PRO, you can flash the chip and unlock a bunch of pixel pipelines, a bit of OC'ing and it was pretty much a 9700 PRO in disguise. :)

The good old days of graphics cards, free performance boosts on the fly!

yah, only if top of the line graphics cards were 400bucks like the 9700pro nowadays.

I thought the new GTS cards had 512MB of ram, and I didn't think they'd be out until Dec 3rd.

i was referring to the refreshed old gts with 16 added sp units, still g80, not g92.
