Old 3850 better than Intel HD 4000?

I have a ATI 3850 in my current PC. I will be upgrading it soon. I am currently building a new machine. No games on the new box, but I will be using Photoshop CS6 and light room. I am having a hard time finding out which GPU would be better. Would using the Ati card be an improvement over the newer HD4000?

Thanks,
Duane

Yep. The HD4000 has the processing power of about a x850xt. It'll be much lower power than using a dedicated 3850, but you'll have better performance, and no stuttering as with the HD4000.

Definitely go for the discrete card. It won't be that good if you're gaming or something, but since you won't be it's definitely the better option for Photoshop and Light room.

Agreed. Make sure you disable the iGPU in bios, that way it's not sucking *any* of your system ram away with no need.

I still haven't figured out how to do that.

But might you still want to use it for Quicksync? 64MBs of RAM isn't exactly huge anymore.
