Okay, so he's actually pointing out hypocrisy and not bitchiness, but my title just sort of stuck.

He makes some good points. Palin comes from one of the most socialist states in the country and is trying to rally Republicans against Obama by claiming that he's... socialist?

Alaska's checks for oil was setup long before Palin showed up. It was constitutionally created 30 years ago.

Uses her words against her. She was boasting of collective ownership while Governor while ridiculing it now, of course. I assume Palin is similar to most of the users on this board in that they can't define Socialism or give a cogent argument as to why Obama is a Socialist.

The "most Socialist" event that has occurred recently is the G$700 bailout as it directs or permits government ownership in banks. Both Obama and McCain agreed to the bailout.

Of course, the bailout might not even be considered Socialist as it does not promote egalitarianism.

Rush has never slammed anyone or anything, except maybe his fists when people pointed out that he's a drug addict and a hypocrite.

There's a difference between slamming someone and making an uninformed opinion while getting red in the face. Here's a hint, Rush is a moron.

Alaskans get no check from oil/natural gas derived from private lands.

People of Alaska getting a chech from royalties derived from natural resources on Alakan state lands != socialism. It's really no different than shareholders of a company getting a dividend check.

But she could say she is against it, if she wanted to; instead, she praises it.

But I think it's a non-issue, given the situation in Alaska, *except* for her so dishonestly attacking Obama.

The right's one-sided views on the system 'redistributing wealth' - ok as long as it's going up, not down - are wrong IMO.

My view is simple: the system should promote egalitarianism and reward productivity.

That requires both an investment in people, a moral safety net for people, and freedom for people to 'get rich' - just not to the point it's counterproductive concentration of wealth.

We're at that point, where the concentration of wealth is not productively incenting productivity, but rather is warping power in our society with the wealthy dominating.

The Alaskans passed a constitutional amendment to invest the oil royalties paid for by oil companies to extract the oil from their land. I am sure Texas recieves something similar in terms of royalties. I would take it up with your state reps or start a grass roots effort to get something similar passed.

Do I agree with it? I dont necessarily have a problem with it if a state wants to collect a royalty from a business that uses public lands for profit.
